End of summer 1998: metalband Mass breaks up but bassist Mario van Meer and drummer Hans Wilders keep on trucking as a duo. They name this new project Bob Miller And The Nightmares, recruit Robert-Jan de Pauw on guitar, release a crappy 4-track demo tape and start doing shows. About a year later -God knows why- Mario switches to vocals and Hans to bass, and they upgrade themselves to a quintet with the addition of guitarist Fer Lauwerijssen and drummer Martijn Konings. Within a few weeks they write, record and release the "Skullfuck Riot" album at Studio 195 and earn themselves a spot on an Opscene compilation cd which also features tracks by ALL, Dead Man Ray and Mitch. In and around the fall of the year 2000 they do a bunch of shows with The Coffinkids and decide to release a split cd together. This marks the beginning of the Black Death collective. After this release Hans leaves and is replaced by Antal Derene, and they record the never released "Watch The Dead Rivers Swell With Blood" album right before imploding. On these recordings you can clearly hear the band has grown, shifting their style from aggressive punk to innovative noise in the vein of late Breach, Refused or even Sonic Youth. The song featured here in the audio player above is from those shelved recordings, you can download the album in its entirety from the downloads page on this website. Anyhow, in the short 4 years of their existence they have shared stages with the likes of The Unborn, Instil, Aversion, Fatal Justice, Against Time and Second To None. The successor to this last band, Dead Rivers, named themselves after the final BM recordings. Most ex-members went ahead with Stockholm Syndrome, Unfold, Envy The West, The Unborn, The Light Brigade, Hospital Beds, Beach Eater, Lugosi, Half Mast, Otis, etcetera, etcetera.
